Few words: this is probably the longest and deepest poem I've written.
a. Start It Up
Goodmorning all
Wonderful day today!
Singing birds, flowing trees
Fresh cut grass and honey bees!
Mornin' honey, how are you?
That's good, I'm fine too
The moon is gone, the sun has dawned
Time to put on a fresh new smile
And face this beautiful day
Start it up!
b. Statue
Our front yard has this statue
that my father built
It's about 6 feet tall
with an average build
It's a treasure hunter
with a walking stick
a backback
and a coonskin cap
the whole 9 yards
I always admired treasure hunters
Maybe that's why I miss my father
He, like most hunters, spent their life
Searching for priceless objects
beautiful heirlooms
themself
They always had a purpose
Sometimes I wish I was like that
I never once found myself
But, life is like that
I wouldn't trade this life for anything
c. Cafe
I walk into my favorite cafe
The door opens with a loud squeak
I sit down and order a mocha '
My 15th one this week
I get along with everyone here
We're all poets, artists, singers
Except for this one bad seed
Whom considers himself a "Trendyr"
He always degrades my everything
My work unfairly criticized
I'd welcome it if it was constructive
But most of it is lies
But I raise my glass and smile
For he is not here
And I can write in peace
With my mind clear
d. War
I get out my pen and paper
and start writing
"Love is by far the
most baleful emotion, piercing
the heart with hot knives and
bathing the soul in..."
But a loud squeek disrupts
my stream of consciencnous
It was the trendy
With his trendy ghetto clothes
And his fancy strut
And his small "posse"
The first thing he does is come to me
"Yo, didn't I tell you this was MY place?
Only artists are allowed here!"
"I feel I am an artist
as well as you are
So can't we just coexist here
in peace?"
"You must be trippin'"
He grabs my neck and slaps my face
I slowly look up at him and grab his head
Holding it tight in my hands
I kick his cranium and he flies into the window
Cracking it like a broken heart
The owner calls for security
"No thanks
I'll throw myself out"
I open the door
and it doesn't squeek
e. Schism
I creep into my house
The atmosphere quiet as a mouse
And lo and behold, what do I see?
My love's eyes, staring hatefully at me
"I just got a call from the cafe
What were you thinking?
'Your boyfriend snapped' is what they say
Have you been drinking?"
"Listen honey, he's been on my bad side
He decided to degrade me again
I defended myself with pride
Is that such a sin?"
She slapped me in the face
Like I was a total disgrace
My well-being ignored,
She kicked me out the front door
f. Penance
I kneel in front of my Father's statue
And glance toward greying sky
Listening to the distant thunder
Breaking clouds like glass
"Oh father, I am sorry
Please forgive me this final time
I am a screw up, I know it
I should have been a vegabond like you"
My body stumbles
feeling woozy
Stomach aching
like a knife stabbed it 6000 times
All purpose is gone
There is no turning back now
With one last breathe
my eyes clamp shut
And I fall.
And with me, falls a raindrop
Landing on the statue's eye
And running down it's cheek
g. Refresh
Drizzle
Drizzle
Drizzle
BOOM!
h. Three Days
I look above to happy days
And think of everything I wanted to say
But my life is quondam and gone
And the planet's life will always go on
